Nepal imports Rs 2.96 billion worth of goods from Bangladesh in eight months

KATHMANDU: In the first eight months of the current fiscal year, Nepal imported goods worth Rs 2.96 billion from Bangladesh while exporting goods worth Rs 276.854 million to the neighboring country.

According to Subash Pandey, Chief of Nepal Transport and Warehouse Management Company Limited in Kakadbhitta, the highest import was unprocessed jute, valued at Rs 1.6 billion.

Other imported goods included batteries, poultry feed supplements, cosmetic products, hydrogen peroxide, jute yarn, electrical appliances, medicines, potatoes, paper, glass, and food and beverage items.

During the same period, exports from Nepal via Kakadbhitta amounted to Rs 236.258 million, including herbs, household items, and animal feed. However, the persistent trade imbalance between the two countries remains a concern.

Chief Pandey emphasized that Nepal could address this gap by increasing electricity exports to Bangladesh, which could help balance bilateral trade in the long run.
