Prachanda: Constitution and democracy must be safeguarded through elections

GORKHA: Chair of the CPN (Maoist Centre) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has emphasized the need to safeguard the constitution and democracy through the electoral process.

Speaking at a party gathering and training program organized by the Maoist Centre in Gorkha today, Dahal said that given the current political situation, there is no alternative to holding elections.

“The Maoist Centre will not back away from elections,” said Dahal, who also heads the Central Convention Organizing Committee. “It is essential to exert pressure on the government in every possible way to create a conducive environment for elections. This is the only way out of the current situation.”

He said the party has reached the conclusion that elections are the only viable solution after a serious review of the recent ‘Gen-Z’ protests. According to Dahal, the environment for elections is gradually taking shape, and other political parties are also preparing to participate.

Dahal further stated that it is the responsibility of all sides to prevent any further political mishaps and that timely elections are necessary to ensure stability.

He also mentioned that his party has long been advocating for a directly elected executive head and a fully proportional electoral system — the same agendas raised by the ‘Gen-Z’ generation.
