Japanese Ambassador pays courtesy call on Minister Ghising



KATHMANDU: Japanese Ambassador to Nepal, Toru Maeda, paid a courtesy call on Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, at Singha Durbar on Thursday.

During the meeting, Ambassador Maeda congratulated Minister Ghising on his appointment and extended best wishes for a successful tenure, according to the minister’s secretariat.

Discussions focused on Japan’s long-standing partnership with Nepal through bilateral grants, loans, multilateral cooperation, and technical assistance. They also reviewed the status of ongoing projects, including the Nagdhunga Tunnel, BP Highway reconstruction, the 140 MW Tanahun Hydropower Project, the Koteshwor junction improvement, and upgrades to the electricity transmission and distribution system.

Minister Ghising highlighted Nepal’s development priorities and sought Japan’s support in strategic projects such as the 670 MW Dudhkoshi and 1,200 MW Budhigandaki reservoir hydropower schemes, infrastructure development, and preparation of an integrated urban master plan for the Kathmandu Valley’s century-long urban management.

Ambassador Maeda assured Japan’s readiness to continue supporting Nepal’s strategic large-scale projects in line with the country’s development priorities.
