KATHMANDU: Engineers have concluded that the CPN-UML central office building in Chyasal, Lalitpur, damaged during the recent Gen-Z protests, can be made safe for use after retrofitting.
According to UML central committee member Niraj Acharya, the engineering assessment found that seven rooms could be reinforced through retrofitting, while one rooftop section would need to be rebuilt.
“Engineers have reported that the office building can be used after strengthening,” Acharya said. “The party’s central office meeting on Wednesday also discussed the matter, and a final decision will soon be made on whether to continue operating from the Chyasal building or relocate.”
Acharya, who heads UML’s Election Department, said that all equipment and furniture in the office were destroyed in the arson attack. He confirmed that the party will move ahead with strengthening work soon.
The Gen-Z protests of September 9 left 64 UML offices vandalized and more than 158 leaders’ and cadres’ private homes and businesses damaged across the country.
