Free dialysis service begins at Bheri Hospital

BANKE: Bheri Hospital will now provide free dialysis services to patients suffering from Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and seropositive conditions under the government’s Poor Citizens Medical Treatment Program.

The hospital has been included in the list of designated facilities by the Nursing and Social Security Division under the Department of Health Services. Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Nirajan Subedi said that patients infected with hepatitis B and HIV are categorized as seropositive and will also be eligible for free dialysis services worth up to Rs 300,000 per year.

“This will bring great relief to patients who have long struggled to afford dialysis treatment,” said Dr. Subedi, adding that the service will officially begin on Wednesday.

Until now, Bheri Hospital has been offering free services to senior citizens, as well as patients with sickle cell anemia, thalassemia, spinal injuries, head injuries, heart disease, and those requiring general dialysis, all under the same government program.

Preparations are also underway to list Bheri Hospital for kidney transplant and peritoneal dialysis services. Once approved, kidney transplant patients will be eligible for up to Rs 700,000 in financial support, with Rs 400,000 allocated for the surgery and Rs 200,000 for post-transplant medication.
