Activities against republic are anti-people: UML General Secretary

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has said that all actions opposing Nepal’s democratic republic are, in essence, against the people.

Speaking at a training program organized by the UML Bagmati Province Committee for elected ward chairs, Pokharel emphasized that the entire party must unite against any anti-republican movements.

“Any activity against the democratic republic is an act against the people’s sovereignty — and thus, against the people themselves,” Pokharel said.

He called on the party’s members to be active in raising awareness among the general public about the importance of the republic.

Highlighting the significance of Republic Day, Pokharel said it should be celebrated as a national festival of the people. He added that the UML will mark the day with various events to honor Nepal’s republican achievements.

The General Secretary urged provincial and district committees to encourage other organizations to celebrate Republic Day with creative and engaging programs.

He further stated that the party will mobilize central leadership in the Kathmandu Valley and deploy provincial and district leaders across the country as needed.

UML’s planned celebrations are part of a broader push to reinforce public support for the republican system amid growing criticism and movements calling for its rollback.
