KATHMANDU: Nepal Telecom has decided to continue providing free voice calls, data and SMS services to customers in and around the Bhotekoshi flood-affected areas until further notice.
The company had earlier provided free voice calls, 2 GB of data per day and 50 SMS messages until August 30. The services have now been extended to facilitate rescue, relief and distribution efforts in the affected areas, according to Nepal Telecom spokesperson Kamal Lamichhane.
Nepal Telecom has urged residents in the flood-affected areas to make use of the free services according to their needs.
Although the floods damaged several of the company’s physical infrastructure facilities, Nepal Telecom has mobilised technical teams to maintain telecommunications services and repair the affected infrastructure.
According to the company, most of the damaged infrastructure in the flood-affected areas has already been restored, while efforts are underway to resume operations at the remaining facilities as soon as possible.
