First half ends goalless as Nepal dominates without scoring

KATHMANDU: The first half of the International Women’s Championship final between Nepal and Myanmar ended in a goalless draw at Dasharath Stadium.

Despite maintaining pressure and creating multiple chances, Nepal failed to convert any of them into goals. The team launched at least three promising attacks but couldn’t break Myanmar’s defense.

With around 12,000 spectators in the stands, Nepal missed key opportunities in the first half, leaving fans anxious.

Nepal and Myanmar reached the final as the top two teams from the four-nation tournament. Nepal has lost more than half a dozen finals before and is determined to claim its first title.

Myanmar topped the league stage with seven points from two wins and a draw, defeating Lebanon and Kyrgyzstan while drawing against Nepal. Nepal also secured seven points but finished second on goal difference after beating Lebanon and Kyrgyzstan and drawing with Myanmar.

Despite Myanmar being ranked 55th in FIFA rankings, far above Nepal, which sits outside the top 100, Nepal’s strong performance in the league stage has boosted confidence for the final.

Ahead of the match, head coach Rajendra Tamang and captain Anjila Tumbapo Subba had expressed optimism about winning the championship.
