CPN-UML files petition in Supreme Court demanding reinstatement of dissolved House

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking the reinstatement of the House of Representatives, which was dissolved after the formation of the interim government led by Prime Minister Sushila Karki on September 12.

Following Karki’s appointment as Prime Minister, President Ram Chandra Paudel, on her recommendation, had dissolved the House of Representatives.

Reacting to the dissolution, UML submitted a writ petition in the Supreme Court, according to Mahesh Bartoula, Chief Whip of the dissolved House. The decision to approach the apex court had been made earlier in a parliamentary party meeting.

“The parliamentary party of UML has authorized Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula and Whip Sunita Baral to file the writ petition in the Supreme Court on behalf of the party, to pursue all necessary legal steps to reinstate the dissolved House,” the meeting resolution stated.

The writ petition lists Bartaula and Baral as petitioners on behalf of the UML parliamentary party (representing the dissolved House).

Meanwhile, Nepali Congress Chief Whip Shyam Ghimire is also preparing to approach the Supreme Court, submitting signatures collected from party lawmakers. Earlier, the Supreme Court had shown interest in whether a writ petition had been filed regarding the dissolved House during its hearing of related cases.
