267 people arrested on charges of arson and vandalism



KATHMANDU: A total of 267 individuals have been arrested on charges of arson and vandalism linked to the Gen-Z movement that took place on September 8 and 9.

According to the District Police Range, Kathmandu, 154 cases have been registered so far in connection with the incidents. Police reported that 87 of the arrested individuals have been released on bail.

Investigation is currently underway against 113 suspects. Of them, 33 have been released on bail, while 43 have been remanded in custody for trial. The District Police Range further stated that 104 complaints related to arson, vandalism, and criminal mischief have been filed.

These include 22 cases from individuals, 66 involving damage to government offices, and 16 related to institutional and commercial establishments, including the Supreme Court and the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority.

Police said they have received 42 reports of missing persons, three of whom are police personnel. DNA testing has been initiated to identify seven unidentified individuals recovered during the incidents.

Authorities confirmed that the identities of the missing persons have now been established. Additionally, 228 assessment reports have been completed regarding damage to buildings and structures during the protests.

Police have also arrested 102 inmates who escaped from various prisons amid the unrest. So far, 83 firearms have been recovered.
