UML Darchula demands concrete action from govt over Lipulekh agreement

DARCHULA: The CPN-UML in Darchula has demanded that the Nepali government take immediate and concrete steps to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and rights following the recent agreement between India and China to reopen the Lipulekh area as a trade point.

In a statement issued on Monday, UML Darchula called for urgent diplomatic action to protect Nepal’s territorial integrity and national pride.

The district committee meeting held in Khalanga over Saturday and Sunday expressed strong objection to the recent India-China agreement.

“According to Nepal’s Constitution, historical maps, and official documents, Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura, and Kalapani are an integral part of Nepal,” the statement released by District Chairman Gyanendra Gharti read. “Any agreement made by a third party over Liplek for its own interests is unacceptable, unconstitutional, and reflects imperialist and colonial tendencies.”

UML highlighted that Nepali citizens must unite on issues of national sovereignty and pride, and the party clarified that no agreements or activities by India or China in Nepalese territory would be recognized.

“CPN-UML Darchula calls upon all Nepali citizens, political parties, intellectuals, civil society, and youth to stand united and raise their voices firmly to protect the nation’s dignity and sovereignty,” the statement concluded.
