Mechi Customs Office: Imports and exports decrease



JHAPA: Goods worth Rs 3.694 billion were imported through the eastern border post of Kakarbhitta in the first month of the current fiscal year 2025/26.

This marks a decrease of Rs 192 million compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year 2024/25, according to Ishwor Kumar Humagain, information officer and customs officer at the Mechi Customs Office.

In the first month of last fiscal year, goods worth Rs 3.884 billion were imported through the same checkpoint.

Exports from Kakarbhitta also declined during the month (Shrawan) of the current fiscal year. Goods worth Rs 1.542 billion were exported to various countries, down from Rs 1.808 billion during the same month last year.

Despite the decline in trade volume, the customs office reported a revenue increase of Rs 151.8 million from imports and exports during Shrawan. In the same month last fiscal year, revenue stood at Rs 1.113 billion.
