BIRGUNJ: The Birgunj Customs Office has collected Rs 73.18 billion in revenue from the import of petroleum products during the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, making it the highest single source of income for the office.
According to Chief Customs Administrator Deepak Lamichhane, the office spent Rs 174 billion to import five types of petroleum products during the review period. Petroleum imports accounted for 46.43 percent of the total revenue generated from the import of the 20 major goods categories.
Lamichhane said that the import of petroleum products and vehicles remains the main basis for revenue at the Birgunj Customs Office. During the same period, revenue from the import of vehicles and their spare parts amounted to Rs 17.70 billion, contributing 11.23 percent to the total collections.
Revenue from iron and iron-based products stood at Rs 5.78 billion, while imports of machinery and their parts generated Rs 5.26 billion. Likewise, Rs 3.67 billion was collected from electric machinery and their components, and Rs 3.06 billion from the import of various types of clothing.
The office also collected Rs 2.58 billion in revenue from tobacco and tobacco-related products, Rs 2.52 billion from cosmetic products, Rs 2.32 billion from plastic raw materials, and Rs 2.19 billion from other lubricant oils.
The Birgunj Customs Office continues to serve as a crucial hub for trade and one of the largest contributors to national revenue through import duties and taxes.
