KATHMANDU: Shocking revelations have emerged linking the son of a senior Nepali Congress (NC) leader to the Bhatbhateni Superstore looting that occurred following a royalist protest in Tinkune on March 28.
Among those identified and arrested through CCTV footage and TikTok videos is Mukesh Yadav, the son of Nepali Congress Joint General Secretary Mahendra Yadav.
The incident involved looting and vandalism at the Bhatbhateni outlet in Koteshwor, owned by Min Bahadur Gurung.
Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Rajendra Lingden brought the issue to light during the first meeting of the Federal Parliament’s meeting on Friday.
Speaking on behalf of the RPP, Lingden claimed that he possessed evidence indicating the Congress leader’s son was not only arrested but also released without facing legal consequences due to political pressure.
Without directly naming Mahendra Yadav, Lingden stated, “We have records, Home Minister, that the son of your party’s Joint General Secretary was arrested in connection with the Bhatbhateni robbery. Why was he released so quickly?”
He alleged that Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak pressured District Police Range Kathmandu Chief SSP Bishwaraj Adhikari to release Mukesh Yadav immediately after his arrest.
Lingden further described the actions of the robbers, claiming that one stole liquor while another took clothes, saying, “I don’t drink alcohol, I need clothes.”
According to sources close to Lingden and corroborated by police insiders, Mukesh Yadav was brought to the District Police Range in Bhadrakali following his arrest.
However, once his identity as the son of the Congress Joint General Secretary became known—allegedly through information passed from the Home Ministry—he was released without further legal action.
These allegations, if proven true, could further inflame public outrage over political protectionism and impunity in Nepal’s justice system.
