MP Khatiwada urges exemption of national ID for senior citizens

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress MP Ramhari Khatiwada has called for the exemption of national identity cards for citizens above 70 years of age.

Speaking at the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Khatiwada stressed that if the government proceeds with the implementation, it should ensure door-to-door distribution.

He argued that requiring elderly citizens to obtain the national ID card could be inconvenient and suggested that local municipalities be tasked with distributing the cards directly in each ward.

“The national identity card has been implemented nationwide. It should not be mandatory for senior citizens above 70 years. If it is implemented, the government should distribute it at the ward level and even deliver it door-to-door,” he said.
