Gyanendra Shah visits ancestral temple in Syangja

SYANGJA: Former King Gyanendra Shah visited the Shah dynasty’s ancestral temple, Alamdevi, in Kaligandaki Rural Municipality-3, Syangja, today.

Shah, who has been residing in Pokhara for some time, traveled to Syangja this morning to perform religious rituals, including worshipping the ancestral deity and participating in Rudri pujan, according to his secretariat.

The visit to the Alamdevi temple, which holds historical significance for the Shah dynasty, attracted the attention of locals and supporters.

As Shah arrived at the temple premises, his supporters chanted slogans such as, “Save the Country,” reflecting continued loyalty among royalist factions.

Shah’s visit comes amid growing curiosity sparked by his recent video message from Pokhara on National Democracy Day. In the message, Shah urged his family members to “not weaken their patience” and hinted at “steps he was about to take,” leading to speculation about his future political intentions.

While the former monarch did not explicitly state any political agenda, his call for patience and support has been interpreted by many as a strategic message aimed at his supporters. Political analysts are closely watching Shah’s moves, given the timing of his statements and his increased public appearances.

After completing his religious rituals at the Alamdevi temple, Shah is expected to return to Pokhara. His visit has once again highlighted the lingering royalist sentiment among certain sections of the Nepali populace, with many supporters calling for his return to the throne.

The former king’s activities continue to stir public debate about Nepal’s political landscape and the relevance of monarchy in the country’s republican framework.
