Province government works on preservation of language, culture: Chief Minister Lama

LALITPUR: Chief Minister of Bagmati Bahadur Singh Lama has said his government has laid emphasis on the preservation of languages and culture.

Addressing the annual general assembly of Nepal Bhasa Manka Khala Yala and presenting the Satyamohan Joshi Nepal Bhasa Literature Prize here Saturday, Chief Minister Lama termed the languages and culture as the treasures of the society adding that the province government has accorded a priority.

“The constitution has guaranteed the preservation of Nepal’s mother tongue and culture. It has created opportunities for the indigenous nationalities. The Bagmati Province Government is working for their cause by enacting the Language Act,” Lama added.

Similarly, he shared that the cabinet meeting on Friday unlocked some issues to facilitate for bringing Nepal Bhasa and Tamang as the official languages of the province.

On the occasion, Tilak Prasad Kayastha was honoured with the Satyamohan Joshi Nepal Bhasa Literature Prize for his outstanding contribution to the Nepal Bhasa for long. Kayastha was given certificate and Rs 51,000.
