KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and former Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed serious concern over the recent unrest in various parts of Madhesh, urging citizens to uphold peace, unity and social harmony.
In a statement posted on social media on Thursday, Deuba said Nepal’s strength lies in mutual coexistence, harmony, unity and cooperation, and appealed to all citizens to exercise restraint during the current situation.
He urged people across the country to embrace the ideals of peace, unity and cooperation, stressing the need to preserve Nepal’s long-standing tradition of social harmony.
Deuba also paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the recent violence, extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
Calling for immediate action, he urged the government to work in coordination with all political parties and take effective measures to prevent the violence from escalating further.
Tensions have intensified in several Tarai districts in recent days following incidents of communal unrest, prompting political leaders from across the spectrum to call for restraint, dialogue and cooperation to restore peace.
