Mobile passport service benefits 2,400 Nepalis in Australia

KATHMANDU: In the past year, 2,400 Nepalis in Australia have utilized the mobile passport service, an initiative by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) in collaboration with the Nepali Embassy in Canberra.

The service was conducted in five major Australian cities, addressing challenges faced by Nepalis living far from the embassy. This initiative not only saved time and effort for the Nepali community but also reduced costs, saving millions of rupees collectively.

NRNA volunteers played a pivotal role in the service’s success, managing applications, providing technical support, and coordinating with the embassy. An administrative fee ranging from AUD 25 to 70 was charged for service management.

NRNA Australia President Anil Pokharel highlighted the relief provided to Nepalis who struggled with timely passport renewals.

“This service was organized based on the community’s needs and has directly benefited those unable to avail embassy services. We are committed to making such initiatives more effective in the future,” he said.
