Five ANNFSU leaders released on bail after assaulting Police in Thamel

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Court has ordered the release of five leaders of the ANNFSU, the student wing of the CPN-UML, on bail after they were arrested for assaulting two police officers in Thamel.

The court, under Judge Harka Bahadur KC, ruled that Ramesh Phulara be released on a bail amount of Rs 15,000, while Kamalraj Joshi, Gopal Bahadur Shahi, Navin Singh Air, and Dinesh Sigdel were granted release on Rs 10,000 each. Joshi is a permanent committee member of ANNFSU and a former president of the Amrit Science Campus unit.

The five were accused of attacking police officers deployed from the Kesharmahal beat under Durbar Marg Police Circle on the night of Magh 24. The assaulted officers, Head Constable Jagulal Gharti and Constable Nagendra Raj Bista, sustained injuries.

The incident reportedly occurred when the student leaders, allegedly intoxicated and causing a disturbance, were confronted by the officers. Instead of complying, they physically attacked the police, throwing away their hats and batons.

Gharti was treated at the National Trauma Center for head and body injuries, while Constable Bista suffered eye and other bodily injuries.
