NC should contest elections with new leadership: Paudel

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Pradeep Paudel has said that the party should participate in the upcoming election, scheduled for March 5, 2026, under new leadership after concluding its 15th general convention.

Speaking with media persons in Kathmandu this morning, Paudel emphasized that the Congress should enter the elections with leadership elected through the general convention, policies aligned with the spirit of the Gen-Z movement, and a dynamic organizational structure. The Nepali Congress has decided to hold its 15th general convention in Kathmandu from January 10 to 13, 2026.

He stated that holding elections on the scheduled date reflects the spirit and aspiration of the Gen-Z movement, adding that the party’s priority is elections rather than the restoration of parliament. He also demanded that the government create an environment conducive to holding free, fair, and rigging-free elections.

“The schedule of the general convention may not be entirely practical and there could be some ups and downs, but the convention must be held before the general election,” he said.

Leader Paudel also informed that party President Sher Bahadur Deuba has clearly instructed leaders, including office bearers, to ensure the general convention is held on time and has expressed his intention to hand over leadership soon.

Recalling that he was unsuccessful in contesting for the post of general secretary during the party’s 14th general convention, Paudel said he will contest again for the same post in the 15th general convention.
