PM Karki and Election Commission discuss preparations for elections

Prime Minister Sushila Karki held talks with officials of the Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday regarding preparations for the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, 2026. At the meeting in Singha Durbar, acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari and fellow commissioners discussed the need for legal amendments, logistical arrangements, and resource mobilization to ensure the polls are conducted on time.

Finance Minister Khanal, Indian envoy hold talks under disputed map; India assures continued support

Finance Minister Rameshwar Khanal and Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava held talks at Singha Durbar on Tuesday afternoon. The two engaged in a lengthy discussion on contemporary issues. What drew particular attention was that the talks were held in Khanal’s office, under the controversial political map of Nepal that includes Limpiyadhura, Kalapani, and Lipulekh.

New NEA Managing Director Manoj Silwal pledges reforms, vows to recover dues from dedicated trunk lines

Newly appointed Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Manoj Silwal, has pledged to implement the government’s decision to recover outstanding dues from dedicated trunk lines. Speaking after assuming office on Tuesday, Silwal said the Ministry of Energy had already decided to collect the arrears, and the NEA would move forward with its execution. He added that earlier decisions would be reviewed before implementation.

Oli indirectly targets Balendra Shah, calls Singha Durbar arson a ‘planned act by infiltrators’

CPN-UML chair KP Sharma Oli has stressed the need to nurture patriotic, responsible, and disciplined youth in Nepal. Forced to resign on September 9 following the Gen-Z protests, Oli has been staying in Gundu, Bhaktapur, where he continues to engage in political activities. On Tuesday, he addressed a group of young visitors at his residence.

RSP says it joined September 8 Gen-Z protest, not September 9 vandalism and arson

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has said it will cooperate with the government in investigations into incidents that occurred during the recent Gen-Z protests. Speaking to journalists at the party office in Banasthali on Tuesday, RSP spokesperson Manish Jha said the party’s leaders had been unfairly linked to incidents of vandalism and arson. He clarified that RSP leaders and cadres had actively participated in the September 8  protest but were not involved in the violence and arson that followed on September 9.

Massive landslide blocks Narayangadh–Muglin road indefinitely at Twin Khola

A massive landslide struck near Twin Khola along the Narayangadh–Muglin road section in Chitwan on Tuesday, forcing authorities to shut down traffic indefinitely. According to field reporter Binod Shrestha, the landslide occurred while multiple bulldozers were clearing debris from earlier slides. A large section of the hillside collapsed, burying the road completely.

NEA’s newly appointed Managing Director Manoj Silwal assumes office

Manoj Silwal, the newly appointed Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), formally assumed office on Tuesday. The government appointed Silwal to the post, replacing Hitendra Dev Shakya.

Only son abducted and killed in Siraha, 8 including relatives arrested

The body of a 15-year-old boy, missing for three days after being abducted, has been found in Siraha. Police confirmed that Abhishek Singh, a resident of Golbazaar Municipality-13, Dangraha, was abducted and killed. His mutilated body was discovered Tuesday morning near his home, under a mango tree, after locals noticed a foul smell.

NEPSE up by 58.63 points

Nepal’s stock market closed significantly higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark NEPSE index rising 58.63 points (2.23%) to settle at 2,682. The rally came despite a drop in overall turnover, which fell to Rs 5.29 billion from Rs 9.17 billion the previous trading day. Out of 252 listed companies traded, 238 advanced while only 14 declined.

Top Bahadur Rayamajhi returns to prison

CPN-UML leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi has returned to prison after escaping during last month’s violent protests. Rayamajhi, who had been in custody at the Sundhara Central Jail in connection with the fake Bhutanese refugee scam, surrendered back to prison on Tuesday. He was among the thousands of inmates who fled when protesters attacked the facility on September 9 amid the Gen-Z movement demonstrations.

Chitwan National Park tightens security ahead of festivals

Chitwan National Park has stepped up security measures ahead of the festive season to prevent potential theft and poaching. As the number of visitors returning from overseas or other districts increases during the holidays, the park faces added security challenges. Authorities have heightened vigilance to counter any plans by smugglers during this period.

Minister Anil Kumar Sinha initiates process to amend Land Use Regulations

Anil Kumar Sinha, Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation, has decided to move forward with amendments to the Land Use Regulations to address ongoing challenges in land reform implementation. Assuming office on Tuesday, Minister Sinha noted that while land reform programs are in place, certain issues persist, requiring changes to the regulations. He highlighted that halted land clearing has complicated development efforts, making regulatory amendments necessary for smoother facilitation.

Home Secretary Duwadi removed, Dangal appointed as replacement

The government has removed Home Secretary Gokarnamani Duwadi from his post and appointed Rameshwor Dangal as the new Home Secretary. Duwadi, who is accused of playing a key role in the suppression of the recent Gen-Z movement, has been reassigned. Prior to this appointment, Dangal was serving as Defense Secretary.

Calls grow for Rabi Lamichhane to step down as RSP chair

Voices are emerging within the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) calling for party chair Rabi Lamichhane to step down while he remains in Nakkhu Jail facing a cooperative fraud case. During a central committee meeting on Tuesday, a proposal was raised that Lamichhane should relinquish his position until the legal proceedings related to the cooperative scam are concluded.

Gold price surpasses Rs 221,000

The Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Traders’ Association has fixed the gold price at Rs 221,700 per tola for Tuesday, marking the highest level to date. The price has increased by Rs 3,900 compared to Monday, when it was Rs 217,800 per tola. Over the past month, gold has surged by around Rs 26,000.

Insurance claims reach Rs 22.26 billion following Gen-Z protests

Insurance claims worth Rs 22.26 billion have been filed for damages caused during the recent Gen-Z protests, according to the Insurance Board of Nepal. The highest number of claims has come from Bagmati Province, totaling Rs 17.98 billion across 1,343 applications. In total, 2,478 claims have been submitted to 18 insurance companies, including micro-insurance firms.

CAN unveils new T20 jersey

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has unveiled the new jersey for the Nepal national cricket team. On Monday evening, CAN revealed the T20 jersey through its official Facebook page. The new design features dark blue and red as primary colors, with Nepal’s name now written in white instead of the previous yellow. On one shoulder, the jersey displays the crescent moon of Nepal’s national flag, while the other shoulder features the sun.
