New NEA Managing Director Manoj Silwal pledges reforms, vows to recover dues from dedicated trunk lines

KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Manoj Silwal, has pledged to implement the government’s decision to recover outstanding dues from dedicated trunk lines.

Speaking after assuming office on Tuesday, Silwal said the Ministry of Energy had already decided to collect the arrears, and the NEA would move forward with its execution. He added that earlier decisions would be reviewed before implementation.

Outlining his priorities, Silwal said he would work on long-term plans, including strengthening NEA’s internal structure and ensuring round-the-clock power supply.

At a welcome program organized by NEA employees, Silwal emphasized his determination to move forward despite any challenges. He noted that with the former NEA chief now serving as the Minister for Energy, coordination would be easier, creating an opportunity to push ahead with reforms.

Acknowledging his appointment as a political one, Silwal remarked that he intended to leave the NEA with a record of tangible improvements. “I have not come here for photo opportunities, but to deliver results,” he asserted.

The interim government appointed Silwal as NEA Executive Director after removing Hitendra Dev Shakya from the position.
