Shankar Pokharel condemns use of Nepali land without consent

DANG: CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has said any attempt by China or India to use Nepali territory without Nepal’s consent is unacceptable.

Speaking at a press conference organized by Press Chautari Nepal Dang on Saturday, Pokharel highlighted that areas including Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh, and Kalapani are integral parts of Nepal. He warned that attempts by neighboring countries to use these lands without prior agreement from Nepal are improper.

“Both neighboring countries have attempted to utilize Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh, and Kalapani without Nepal’s consent. Nepal has expressed its objection through diplomatic channels. Any agreement made without Nepal’s participation or approval is unacceptable. Solutions must be based on facts and evidence,” he stated.

Pokharel also reaffirmed that the Sugauli Treaty marks the true boundary of Nepal, noting that the country’s stance on territorial issues is grounded in verified facts and evidence.

Commenting on the government’s performance, Pokharel said, “Comparing the previous situation with the current one, this government has been successful. Revenue has increased, spending capacity has strengthened, the investment environment has improved, and the private sector is motivated.”

In addition, Pokharel announced that UML’s second Statutory General Convention will be held on September 6 to 8. He said the convention will discuss three proposals covering political, organizational, and statutory amendments, with participation from over 650,000 party members.

On former President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s potential political involvement, Pokharel remarked that it is not appropriate for her to return to active party politics. “A respected figure like a former president should not be confined at home or prevented from social engagement. There is no restriction on participating in social life; she should not be forced to remain inactive,” he added.
