PM Oli reaffirms zero tolerance for corruption

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Wednesday reiterated his government’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against corruption and stressed plans to boost domestic employment opportunities to curb labor migration.

Speaking during the question-answer session in the House of Representatives, Oli said his administration stands firm on the principle of “not committing corruption, and not allowing it.”

However, he clarified that actions would only be taken based on concrete evidence. “No serious corruption case will be tolerated if backed by facts,” he said, “but we cannot take action solely on the basis of allegations.”

Addressing concerns about rising youth unemployment and labor outmigration, Oli highlighted that the government is working to create job opportunities within the country. He said that from fiscal year 2025 to 2035, the government will observe a “Decade of Internal Employment Promotion.”

The prime minister pointed to key sectors, agriculture, industry, tourism, energy, and infrastructure, as areas where both public and private investment is expected to generate significant employment.

He also shared that the government plans to restructure the Prime Minister Employment Program into a broader national employment promotion framework with a stronger focus on skill-building and job creation.

“To support youths returning from foreign employment, reintegration and entrepreneurship promotion programs are already underway in 20 municipalities across Koshi and Madhesh provinces under the ReMi project,” he said.

He also noted that special initiatives are being rolled out to foster innovation and entrepreneurship among the Gen-Z demographic through startup support and incubation programs.
