KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has expressed deep respect and admiration for Pushpalal Shrestha, the founding General Secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal, on the occasion of his 47th memorial day.
Taking to social media on Wednesday, Prime Minister Oli wrote, “Today is the memorial day of Comrade Pushpalal, the founding general secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal. High respects and heartfelt tributes to the revered leader Pushpalal!”
Commemorative events are being held across the country by various communist parties to mark the day and honor Pushpalal’s life, ideology, and lasting impact on Nepali politics. The programmes include seminars, public gatherings, and discussions on his contributions to the communist movement in Nepal.
Born in Bhangeri, Ramechhap, on Asar 15, 1981 BS, Pushpalal was a pioneering figure in Nepal’s leftist politics. He is widely remembered for translating the Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Frederick Engels into Nepali, helping to introduce communist philosophy to a broader audience in the country.
Pushpalal founded the Communist Party of Nepal on Baisakh 10, 2006 BS, becoming its first General Secretary. He remained a leading figure in Nepal’s communist movement until his death on Shrawan 7, 2035 BS.
