Foreign Minister assures efforts underway to repatriate Nepalis from Israel

KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has said that the government is actively working to bring Nepali citizens back from Israel amid growing concerns for their safety.

Speaking during Monday’s session of the House of Representatives, Minister Rana informed lawmakers that over 2,000 Nepalis had gone to Israel under a government-to-government (G2G) agreement and all relevant data of these individuals is available.

“They have been paying for three consecutive years, so they can be rescued using the security fund,” she said.

Rana also mentioned efforts to repatriate Nepalis who had entered Israel through illegal channels, including those using fake Indian passports.

“They have appealed to return home, and we have written to the Home Ministry requesting permission to issue travel documents,” she said.

The minister noted that Nepal’s embassy in Israel is currently non-operational due to conflict, with the ambassador working from a bunker.

“Among nearly a thousand Nepalis, around 400 to 500 are undocumented. Many others are ready to return as soon as flights are arranged,” she added.

Additionally, she said three Nepalis stranded in Israel would be brought back via Egypt, as Germany declined to issue travel documents. She also revealed that around 500 Nepalis have settled in Israel through marriage.
