KATHMANDU: The Meteorological Forecasting Division has issued a public alert as temperatures continue to rise, warning of potential heat waves across several regions of Nepal, particularly in the southern plains.
Meteorologist Rojan Lamichhane said maximum temperatures have already reached 40 degrees Celsius in parts of the Tarai.
“In provinces like Madhesh, Lumbini, and the Far West, temperatures have hit 38 degrees and are likely to rise further over the next two days,” Lamichhane said. “There is a possibility of heat waves, so the public should remain cautious.”
The division has advised people to take precautions to avoid health complications due to excessive heat. Early signs of heat-related illnesses may include skin irritation, small sores, and swelling of the legs. In severe cases, individuals may experience dizziness, fainting, headaches, vomiting, or even a drop in blood pressure.
Experts recommend staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged outdoor exposure during peak hours, and seeking medical attention if symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke appear.
