Route permits open for public vehicles from today

KATHMANDU: Route permits for passenger public vehicles have been opened from today to ensure smooth operation of public transport across the country during the festive season, according to Bijay Bahadur Swar, President of the National Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs.

With this move, public vehicles can now operate directly to their destinations without requiring alternative routes. However, existing restrictions on vehicles—based on the specific conditions of certain roads—will still apply.

The route permits will remain open until October 8. The Federation has also emphasized that passengers must purchase tickets when traveling on public transport.

To ease traffic flow, the government has already restricted the movement of large vehicles, including trailers (except those carrying essential goods such as food grains), along the Narayangadh–Kathmandu route until the full moon (Purnima).
