Public holiday announced in six Lumbini districts on Sunday



LUMBINI: The Lumbini Province Government has declared a public holiday on Sunday, August 24, to mark the Barka Atwari festival celebrated by the Tharu community.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law announced that the holiday will be observed in six districts—Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Kapilvastu, Rupandehi, and West Nawalparasi—where the Tharu population is concentrated.

Barka Atwari is a traditional festival during which Tharu men customarily observe a fast and worship the sun.
