Nepal participates in Unistream Social Innovation Delegation in Israel

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel is hosting the “Unistream Social Innovation Delegation 2025” from July 19 to 24.

The program brings together emerging talents in the field of innovation from around the world—including participants from Nepal, South Korea, India, Serbia, and other nations—for a week-long immersion into Israel’s dynamic ecosystem of social innovation and entrepreneurship.

Representing Nepal in this international delegation is Mr. Umesh Jang Rai, Team Leader for Biomedical Engineering Research and Innovation at the National Innovation Center (NIC), Kirtipur, Kathmandu.

In 2022, the Embassy of Israel established a Research & Development Hub and a fully equipped Israeli-styled high-tech classroom at the NIC, aimed at promoting innovation, collaboration, and digital learning in Nepal.

Delegation members are participating in a diverse program featuring professional site visits, insightful meetings, and networking opportunities with key stakeholders in Israel’s innovation landscape.

Highlights of the itinerary include visits to the Israeli NGO Save a Child’s Heart, the Peres Center for Peace and Innovation, the Unit 8200 Accelerator, and the Sderot Medical Center. Delegates will also attend the Unistream Competition at Expo Tel Aviv.

In addition, participants will visit Kibbutz Kfar Aza—one of the sites affected by the Hamas attack on October 7—and meet with a survivor of the incident. Further engagements include meetings with prominent Israeli innovators and visits to Technion University, DruzeTech, and the Druze community.

The program also introduces delegates to leading social tech initiatives such as Hilma, the Shalva National Center, and PICO Kids.

The experience is complemented by cultural visits to the historic Old City of Jerusalem and the ancient port city of Jaffa, offering participants a deeper understanding of Israel’s cultural and social context.

This visit builds upon the growing partnership between Nepal and Israel. Just days earlier, from July 12 to 18, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel hosted a high-level 14-member delegation from Nepal in conjunction with Muni Expo 2025, the flagship annual event of the Federation of Local Governments of Israel.
