Muglin-Malekhu road to remain open at night as beam work ends

CHITWAN: The installation of RCC beams on four bridges along the Muglin-Malekhu road section was completed this morning, meaning nighttime road closures in this section are no longer necessary.

However, according to the Nagdhunga-Muglin Road Project Office, the Naubise-Malekhu stretch of the Prithvi Highway will be closed tonight and tomorrow night for similar beam installation work on the under-construction Galaudi River bridge.

Kedar Prasad Nepal, Chief of the West Section of the project, said that RCC beams have been successfully placed on the Barabang, Mowa, Khatauti, and Gomati Khola bridges. The work has been accelerated to ensure that slope construction on two of the bridges is completed by the end of June.

A large crane brought from India was used for the installation, which required halting nighttime traffic from June 13 to June 21.

The same crane is now being used to install beams on the Galaudi River bridge, with traffic closures scheduled from 10:30 PM to 3:00 AM for two consecutive nights, as per the project’s notice.

So far, 32 percent of the Muglin-Malekhu road section has been completed. Eight kilometers have already been blacktopped in areas such as Lewatar, Kurintar, Chumlingtar, and Fisling Bazaar in Chitwan.

In Dhading, 14-meter-wide four-lane sections have been blacktopped in Majhimtar, Charaudi, and Bishaltar. An additional two kilometers are scheduled to be blacktopped soon, depending on weather conditions.

Project engineer Bijay Darai said foundation work is ongoing for two more bridges at Charaudi and Hugdi in Dhading. “A 2.2 km six-lane road will be constructed in the Malekhu, Benighat, and Muglin sections. Another 7.2 km will consist of four-lane segments in areas including Ramal Danda, Kurintar, Fisling, Chumlingtar, Majhimtar, Charaudi, and Bishaltar,” he said.

In addition, a 2.3 km three-lane climbing lane will be built on steep uphill and downhill stretches. The remaining sections will consist of dedicated two-lane roads.
