Three children die after mother allegedly poisons them in Dhanusha

DHANUSHA: A tragic incident has unfolded in Basudevpattti village of Shahidnagar Municipality-5, Dhanusha, where a mother reportedly poisoned her three young children, leading to their deaths. Police suspect she also attempted to take her own life afterward.

The deceased have been identified as Aditya Sah (6), Aakriti Sah (4), and Aarusi Sah (2), children of local resident Sushil Sah. Preliminary reports suggest they died from poisoning.

According to police, the incident came to light around 6:40 PM on Monday, when Babita Sah was found unconscious inside the house along with her three children. Neighbors immediately rushed them to Janakpur for treatment, but doctors confirmed that all three children had died before or upon arrival at the hospital.

Babita, 30, remains in critical condition and is currently receiving treatment on a ventilator at the Provincial Hospital in Janakpur, according to the Dhanusha District Police Office.

Inspector Sanjeev Yadav stated that police were only informed about the incident nearly two and a half hours later, which delayed the investigation. “We reached the scene around 9 PM,” he said. “Based on the nature of the incident, it appears that ongoing family conflict may have led to this devastating outcome.”

Local sources reported that the couple had been facing serious marital strain, with Sushil Sah living away from home for an extended period and the family grappling with financial difficulties. Babita was said to be under significant mental stress in recent weeks.

However, police say a detailed investigation is still needed to confirm these details.

The village of Basudevpattti is in mourning following the heartbreaking loss of the three children.
