Search continues for two missing in Saptakoshi River

SUNSARI: The search for two individuals who went missing in the Saptakoshi River at Barahakshetra Municipality-1 continues for the second day, authorities said.

The missing have been identified as 40-year-old Nawaraj Bastola of Kepilas Gadhi Rural Municipality-4, Khotang, and his 16-year-old nephew Janis Acharya of Itahari-16.

They reportedly drowned while bathing near the Barahakshetra Temple around 8:30 am on Monday.

According to District Police Office spokesperson Yograj Khatiwada, the rescue operation has been hampered by high and murky water levels. However, a joint team of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and trained divers has resumed the search today.

Chief Superintendent of Police Nirmal Thapa of the Armed Police Force-4 Battalion Sunsari said 11 swimmers, including five trained divers, have been deployed in the ongoing operation.
