Bagmati Province spends only 32% of budget in nine months

KATHMANDU: The Bagmati Provincial Government has spent just 32.51 percent of its total budget in the first nine months of the fiscal year 2024/25, according to data released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Planning.

From Shrawan to Chait, the government spent 28.24 percent of its capital budget and 40.51 percent of its recurrent budget. In monetary terms, this amounts to Rs 10.49 billion on capital expenditure and Rs 10.49 billion on recurrent expenditure, totaling Rs 20.98 billion out of the allocated Rs 64.54 billion for the fiscal year.

Information Officer Indraraj Sanjyal stated that capital spending continues to lag behind current expenditure, a recurring trend in provincial budget implementation.

Among government offices, the Office of the Chief Attorney led with 68.43 percent budget utilization, followed by the Provincial Assembly Secretariat at 43.69 percent. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism reported the lowest expenditure, utilizing just 16.43 percent of its budget.

Sanjyal explained that delayed implementation of development schemes is a key reason for the slow capital spending, with many programs only beginning in recent months.
