Rabi Lamichhane’s statement recorded, bail hearing deferred
Although Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane completed his statement at the Rupandehi District Court today, the detention hearing has been postponed.
According to the court’s information officer, Anantaraj Marasini, the statement was recorded in the bench of Judge Palhad Kumar Yogi, but the hearing for detention could not proceed further.
Govt to present bill on regulation of social media in Parliament
The government has received approval from the Council of Ministers to present the “Bill on the Operation, Use, and Regulation of Social Sites, 2025” in Parliament.
Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, announced this in a press conference on January 22, revealing the decisions made in the Cabinet meeting held on January 20. Minister Gurung also shared that the Council of Ministers has recommended to the President to summon the session of both houses of the Federal Parliament on January 31 at 1 pm.
Arrest warrant issued against UML leader Ain Mahar in rape case
The Patan High Court has issued an arrest warrant against UML central member Ain Mahar in connection with a rape case. The decision came following a hearing on the complaint filed by Rashmila Kumari Dhami, who alleges that Mahar repeatedly sexually abused her.
A bench comprising High Court Judges Brajesh Kumar Pyakurel and Krishnaram Koirala ordered the arrest of Mahar.
