ICC Women’s U-19 World Cup: Nepal finish winless after 83-run defeat to Australia



KATHMANDU: Nepal faced an 83-run defeat against Australia in their final group stage match of the ICC Women’s U-19 World Cup.

Chasing a target of 140 runs set by Australia, Nepal struggled with the bat and managed only 56 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs.

Captain Pooja Mahato was the top scorer for Nepal with 18 runs, while none of her teammates reached double figures.

Australia’s bowlers dominated the innings, with Juliette Morton, Lily Bassingthwaighte, and Hasrat Gill taking two wickets each.

Earlier, Australia elected to bat first after winning the toss and posted a competitive total of 139 for six in their allotted 20 overs.

Caoimhe Bray led the Australian batting effort with a quickfire 45 runs off 34 balls, including three fours and three sixes. Eleanor Larosa added 31 runs, while Hasrat Gill contributed 30.

Nepal’s captain, Pooja Mahato, delivered a standout bowling performance, claiming three wickets, while Seemana KC and Riya Sharma took two and one wicket, respectively.

This defeat marked Nepal’s third consecutive loss in the tournament.

They had previously lost to Bangladesh by five wickets in their opening match and suffered a narrow one-wicket defeat against Scotland in the second game.

With this victory, Australia secured an undefeated record in the group stage and advanced to the Super Sixes.

The team had earlier registered wins against Scotland by nine wickets and Bangladesh by two wickets.
