213 people arrested in Jhapa in past 6 months



KATHMANDU: In the first six months of the current fiscal year, Jhapa police have arrested 213 individuals involved in drug abuse and trafficking, intensifying efforts to combat illegal drug activities in the district.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Krishna Kumar Chand, who serves as the spokesperson for the District Police Office, police seized significant quantities of drugs during the arrests.

Confiscated substances include 3.67 kilograms of marijuana, 720.80 grams of brown heroin, 7,237 tramadol tablets, and other drugs like anticaf tablets.

The District Police Office reports that 151 drug-related cases have been registered in the District Court, Jhapa, over the past six months.

“We have increased our vigilance in areas where drug trafficking is prevalent, including border crossings, villages, and city markets,” said DSP Chand. The police have also been conducting awareness programs to curb drug abuse in the community.

In addition to drug-related arrests, the police apprehended 148 absconding defendants and confiscated goods worth Rs 16.11 million from various locations. These items have been handed over to the Mechi Customs Office for further action.
