We are moving ahead to hold elections: PM Karki

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that elections of the House of Representatives must be held on the scheduled date to ensure peace and stability in the country.

During a meeting at Singha Durbar on Sunday with a delegation led by former Ilam Constituency No. 2 lawmaker Suhang Nembang, Prime Minister Karki said the current government had been formed with the sole purpose of holding elections and urged all stakeholders to move forward with preparations without confusion.

“We are moving ahead to hold elections. We came in an extraordinary situation specifically to restore peace and conduct elections,” she said. “We have succeeded in restoring peace and the rule of law. Our next goal is to hold elections. Only elections can ensure lasting peace and stability in the country.”

According to the Prime Minister’s private secretariat, former lawmaker Nembang wished her success in conducting the elections.

Prime Minister Karki also inquired about Nembang’s preparation to contest the elections. In response, he said he was preparing for it. Wishing him well, the Prime Minister stressed that young leaders must now come forward.

“Elections will be held, so stay prepared. Youth like you must move ahead and take charge of the country,” she said.

“Those who learned to write with bamboo pens cannot rule over those born with smartphones. Experience and advice from seniors matter, but the driver’s seat must be taken by the youth. The country must be led by young people who have courage and energy.”

During the meeting, Nembang drew the Prime Minister’s attention to the need for prompt reconstruction of highways and bridges damaged by floods and landslides in Ilam.

Prime Minister Karki said Infrastructure Minister Kulman Ghising had recently conducted a field inspection and assured that the government was serious about addressing the issue.
