CPA goals align with youth voices: Prachanda

KATHMANDU: Nepali Communist Party Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA) played a decisive role in shaping Nepal’s democratic republican constitution founded on federalism, inclusiveness, and secularism.

Extending best wishes on the occasion of the 19th anniversary of the CPA between the Government of Nepal and the then CPN (Maoist), Coordinator Dahal stated that the core objectives of the ‘People’s War’ and the Comprehensive Peace Agreement will remain unfulfilled until issues of social justice, good governance, economic equality, and prosperity are addressed.

Paying special tribute to the late Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, one of the principal signatories of the Peace Agreement, Dahal also expressed respect for all living signatories and contributors to the peace process.

“The Nepali Communist Party, formed through new unification and polarization, reaffirms its commitment to complete the remaining tasks of the peace process by assuming full political ownership and responsibility,” Dahal said in his message.

He added that the core essence of the CPA is to establish an inclusive, egalitarian, welfare-oriented, and corruption-free republic. According to him, the Gen-Z youth is now raising its voice with the same values, aspirations, and spirit.

“I firmly believe that the aspirations of the youth can be fulfilled only by amending the governance system and constitution in line with the spirit of the peace agreement,” he said.

Former Prime Minister Dahal also called for collective efforts to resolve the challenges facing contemporary Nepali society through a serious review of the past. He paid tribute to all martyrs who sacrificed their lives for justice, equality, and freedom, and expressed deep respect for the missing, the injured, the disabled, and their families.

The Comprehensive Peace Accord was signed on November 20, 2006, between the government and the then Maoist rebels to institutionalize the People’s War waged to end all forms of oppression—class, caste, gender, linguistic, and regional—in Nepali society.
