Won’t compromise on good governance: Energy Minister Ghising

KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Physical Planning, and Urban Development Kulman Ghising has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upholding good governance, stating that there will be no compromise on transparency and accountability.

Speaking during a discussion with the leadership of the Federation of Nepal Construction Entrepreneurs at Singha Durbar on Sunday, Minister Ghising emphasized that the ongoing nationwide demand for change, sparked by the Gen-G movement, must be met with firm action.

“The country is undergoing a major transformation. In such a time, there can be no compromise on good governance,” he said. “We must work together to eliminate the widespread disappointment felt across the nation.”

He added that all ministries and government secretaries have been directed to implement government policies without exception and to refrain from leniency or delays in enforcement.

Minister Ghising also issued a clear warning to underperforming construction companies: contracts will be terminated if projects are not completed within the stipulated timeframe.

“Construction companies must take responsibility for their delays. Non-performance will not be tolerated,” he asserted.

Following the meeting, Federation President Rabi Singh shared that the discussions centered on the current challenges in the construction sector, particularly in the wake of the Gen-G movement.

Singh said the federation raised concerns over the government’s decision to scrap the Rugna scheme, suggesting that its broader implications should be thoroughly assessed. He also urged the government to dismantle consumer committees, describing them as hotbeds of corruption.

Singh expressed optimism that the interim government, backed by a strong public mandate for reform, would address the structural problems plaguing the construction industry and help revitalize the national economy.

“We believe this government has the will to tackle the deep-rooted issues—not just in the construction sector but across all areas affecting economic progress,” Singh said.
