Landslides block six major highways across Nepal

KATHMANDU: Nepal Police has reported road obstructions at several locations across six major highways due to recent landslides and infrastructure damage.

According to the police, the Koshi Highway is blocked at Barun in Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-4 and at Ekuwa in Makalu Rural Municipality-3 of Sankhuwasabha district following heavy rainfall-triggered landslides.

In Rasuwa, a key Nepal-China connecting bridge in Gosainkunda Rural Municipality has been washed away, halting cross-border movement.

The Araniko Highway remains closed at Kodari in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-2, Sindhupalchowk, where it has been blocked for nearly two months.

Similarly, the Beni–Darbang road section is completely obstructed at Ghumaune Bhir in Beni Municipality-4, Myagdi, while the Jajarkot–Dolpa road section is blocked at Bhirkuna in Nalgad Municipality-11, Jajarkot.

In Chitwan, a massive landslide has blocked the Narayangadh–Muglin road section near the Tuin Bridge in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality-6.

The landslide, which began Friday evening, has proven difficult to clear due to repeated debris falls. Road-clearing efforts are underway with three machines deployed, though progress has been slow. Authorities have urged travelers to use alternative routes where possible.
