Lalit Rajbanshi declines govt housing, says he can build his own home

KATHMANDU: Nepali national cricket team member Lalit Rajbanshi has stated that he is capable of building a house for his family and does not wish to take a home offered under the Koshi Province government’s “Janata Awas Program.”

He made the remarks to reporters in Biratnagar on Thursday.

“I am capable of building a house for my family myself,” Rajbanshi said. “The government should prioritize providing homes to those who truly need them.” He added that the houses should be allocated to the communities and families for whom they are intended under the program.

Rajbanshi also pointed out that the budget for the Janata Awas Program is meant to support poorer and marginalized families. He stated that he would accept any support only if it were offered out of genuine sympathy, rather than entitlement.

His mother, Shubha Kumari, passed away on August 10 at their residence in Biratnagar. The 63-year-old had been suffering from heart disease for some time.

Following her death, Provincial Assembly member Amrit Aryal of the Nepali Congress visited the family and announced that a home would be constructed for them under the Janata Awas Program.
