Maoist Centre slams forceful conduct of parliament

KATHMANDU: The main opposition party, CPN (Maoist Centre), has objected to the continuation of parliamentary proceedings despite obstruction by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).

Speaking at Saturday’s House of Representatives meeting, Maoist lawmaker Madhav Sapkota criticized what he called an “authoritarian approach” to running the parliament forcibly.

“It is not appropriate to operate parliament through force in such an autocratic manner,” Sapkota said. “This ridicules democracy and diminishes the dignity and stature of our parliament. I express my deep regret over it.”

Sapkota’s remarks came after Speaker Devraj Ghimire continued the House session by allocating speaking times to lawmakers despite ongoing obstructions from RSP and RPP lawmakers, who are demanding a parliamentary probe into the visit visa scam.
