RSP lawmakers walk out of House meeting again

KATHMANDU: Lawmakers from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) walked out of the House of Representatives meeting on Saturday amid ongoing discussions on the ministry-wise budget allocations.

The walkout came as Speaker Devraj Ghimire began allocating time for lawmakers to speak based on party representation.

The Speaker granted 18 minutes of speaking time to Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, a Nepali Congress lawmaker and spokesperson from the ruling coalition.

As soon as Dr. Mahat approached the rostrum to deliver his remarks, RSP lawmakers began exiting the chamber from the parliamentary well.

Noticing the departure, Dr. Mahat commented from the podium, “Mr. Speaker, it’s difficult to keep standing continuously.”

Earlier during the same meeting, RSP lawmakers had been silently standing in protest near the Speaker’s podium.

On Friday as well, they remained standing throughout the session while reading books to mark their dissatisfaction over the government’s handling of the visit visa scam issue, for which they are demanding a parliamentary probe committee.
