No more diversion over Binayi River; traffic to resume only after bridge completion

NAWALPUR: Traffic along the Butwal-Narayangadh road section will only resume through the Dumkibas stretch after the under-construction bridge over the Binayi River is completed, local authorities confirmed.

The temporary diversion route, which had been in use since the Dumkibas Bridge collapsed in January, will no longer be available after heavy flooding on Thursday night nearly swept away a passenger bus.

Chief District Officer of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East) Bhaviswar Pandey said that, due to the risks involved, authorities have decided not to build another diversion.

“Until the bridge is ready—likely by early July—travelers must use alternative routes,” he added.

Light vehicles have been rerouted through the Sardi–Hongsi Cement Gate–Dumkibas Bazaar road, while freight vehicles are advised either to wait or turn back, as the alternative route cannot accommodate them.

Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality Chair Ghanashyam Giri blamed the worsening road condition on the negligence of the contractor responsible for the bridge. “It’s natural for roads to become muddy during rains, but the situation has been made worse by poor management during reconstruction,” he stated.

The authorities have urged the public to cooperate and plan their travel accordingly until the bridge becomes operational.
