RSP’s Kishori Sah blacklisted eight times before candidacy annulled

KATHMANDU: Kishori Sah Kamal, whose candidacy from Dhanusha Constituency-1 was annulled, was found to have been blacklisted not once but eight times, according to official records.

Sah, a candidate of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), had his nomination scrapped after the Election Commission of Nepal concluded that he was listed on the blacklist of banks and financial institutions.

The Commission said on Tuesday that Sah’s name appeared in the blacklist maintained by the Credit Information Center. Although a complaint had earlier been filed with the Commission after the RSP fielded him as a candidate, the matter had initially not been addressed.

Kishori Sah, a former member of the Madhesh Provincial Assembly, is a construction entrepreneur and a shareholder of Kamal Nirman Sewa Pvt Ltd.

Blacklisted eight times

According to details provided by the Credit Information Center, Sah was first blacklisted on April 30, 2023. At that time, his business partner Anjali Sah was also blacklisted.

On October 4, 2023, Kishori Sah and Sanjit Kumar Sah were blacklisted for the second time. Records show that on the same date, they were listed again under a separate blacklist entry maintained by the Center.

On October 6, 2023, Kishori Sah along with Ram Kumar Mahaseth was blacklisted. Two days later, on October 8, 2023, the duo was again placed on the blacklist.

Due to further financial irregularities, the Credit Information Center blacklisted Sah once more on February 5, 2024. Sanjit Kumar Sah was also listed again on that occasion.

Even after securing the RSP ticket and entering the election race, Kishori Sah was blacklisted again on January 18 and subsequently on January 24 this year.

Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari stated that the Commission annulled Kishori Sah’s candidacy after sufficient evidence supporting the complaint was found during investigation.

With Kishori Sah’s candidacy cancelled, the electoral contest in Dhanusha-1 is now set to be among other major parties, including Ram Chandra Mandal of the CPN-UML, Rampal Sah of the Nepali Congress, and Matrika Prasad Yadav of the Nepali Communist Party.

A total of 42 candidates remain in the fray in the constituency.
