Foreign national rescued from Upper Mustang



MUSTANG: A foreign national suffering from altitude sickness in Upper Mustang was rescued last night.

Diego Mario Pinto, a 31-year-old Italian citizen, was rescued by an ambulance dispatched by the health unit of Lomanthang Rural Municipality after he fell ill during his visit to the region.

According to Bikash KC, Acting Chief Administrative Officer of Lomanthang Rural Municipality, Pinto was trekking in the Upper Mustang region, situated at an altitude of approximately 4,000 meters above sea level, when he began experiencing symptoms of altitude sickness, including breathing difficulties and severe headaches.

The rural municipality responded promptly, dispatching an ambulance equipped with oxygen and accompanied by two health workers to transport Pinto to the Provincial Hospital in Jomsom for further medical treatment.

KC further shared that Pinto had entered the restricted area of Upper Mustang with a 10-day visa, for which he had paid USD 500.

Upon receiving reports of his deteriorating health, authorities acted immediately to ensure his safe evacuation and treatment.
