Majority of Nagarik Unmukti Party members favor merger with Janmat Party despite leadership hesitation

KATHMANDU: The Nagarik Unmukti Party held the first day of its central working committee meeting, where 20 central members expressed their views.

The meeting, attended by around 100 central members, concluded its inaugural session with a significant portion of members favoring unity with the Janmat Party, led by Dr. CK Raut.

According to MP Gangaram Chaudhary, more than 15 out of 20 members spoke in favor of unification, indicating strong support for the move. Chaudhary noted that Nagarik Unmukti Party founder Resham Chaudhary also supports the unity, while Chair Ranjita Shrestha appears hesitant.

“It does not seem that the chair is completely against unity. Today, more than 15 members spoke in favor of it,” MP Chaudhary told Khabarhub.

He added that the meeting would resume tomorrow to allow more members to share their views before reaching a final decision.

The meeting will also discuss whether Nagarik Unmukti Party will officially recognize Raut as the chair if the unification takes place. Meanwhile, the Janmat Party has already decided to move forward with the unity.
