Construction of Dhalkebar-Bara transmission line completed

KATHMANDU: The construction of the Dhalkebar-Bara section under the Hetauda-Dhalkebar-Inaruwa 400 kV transmission line project has been completed, strengthening Nepal’s electricity transmission system and facilitating energy trade with India.

The 100-kilometer transmission line extends from the Dhalkebar substation in Dhanusha to Saraswati Danda on the border of Bara and Makawanpur, passing through Mahottari, Sarlahi, and Rautahat. The project aims to enhance power supply reliability and meet the growing energy demand within the country.

The 154-kilometer double circuit transmission line from Dhalkebar to Inaruwa Substation at Bhokraha Narsingh Rural Municipality-4 in Sunsari has already been operational since last June. Additionally, around 60 kilometers of the 400 kV transmission line from Dhalkebar to Chandranigahapur (Chapur) Bazaar of Rautahat has been brought into operation at 132 kV to facilitate electricity flow towards the west.

The transmission line was charged to 132 kV through ‘tapping’ at Chandranigahapur in the presence of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Managing Director Kulman Ghising on Thursday.

Ghising stated that charging the 400 kV line at 132 kV helps remove obstacles in the existing infrastructure, ensuring a smooth power supply from Dhalkebar to the west and vice versa.

Ghising also mentioned that additional electricity can now be imported from India during the day via the Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur inter-country transmission line to address energy shortages seen in winter.

This would allow water from semi-reservoir projects like Kulekhani Reservoir, Upper Tamakoshi, Kaligandaki, Marsyangdi, and Madhya Marsyangdi to be stored in the afternoon and utilized at night for power generation. The completion of the transmission line will make power management from Dhalkebar to the west more efficient.
